Tracee Ellis Ross Wins Outstanding Actress In A Comedy Series! | NAACP Image Awards

Hi. Thank you, NAACP–
I’m gonna read off my phone. Thank you, NAACP, for your work
and for giving us a place to gather and to acknowledge
each other and to see each other. Thank you Black-ish for 142
episodes in six years… -(cheering, applause)
-…of fun and joy. Um, okay. “We too often have been
expected to be all things “to all people and to speak
everyone else’s position but our very own,” said Audre
Lorde about us as black women. Our experiences and stories
are way too often told through interpreters,
and history, system and laws have told us that we need
a man’s voice or power to name our existence,
to validate our experiences, that we need a son
to carry on a legacy to etch our impact in time. But we get to define ourselves, not through
how others imagine us, but through
how we see ourselves, even if our truth makes– even if our truth
makes you uncomfortable. I’m honored to be in the company of Jill, Tiffany,
Yara and Logan, each whose voices
transcend the real estate of their designated roles. I am honored to be in the era
of Ava, Issa, Lena, Melina, Janelle, Viola, Rihanna, Lizzo,
Kerry, Rashida, America and the list goes on,
and I am humbled to learn from the legacies
of Moms Mabley, Lena Horne, Cicely Tyson, Ruby Dee, Diahann Carroll, Maxine Waters, my mom, Rosa Parks,
Maya Angelou, Nina Simone and Toni Morrison. And I love being a part
of this ever-growing chorus of black women owning
our own legacies. -(cheering, applause)
-Thank you.

  1. TELL NAACP TO STOP SUPPORTING BLACK GENOCIDE BY THE MASS ABORTION OF BLACK BABIES. OVER 19 MILLIONS BLACK BABIES HAVE BEEN ABORTED BY KKK PLAN PARENTHOOD

  2. Where is nikki Minaj jealous self…Well I guess those dark skinned people are set. what about Jamaica, Haiti, and all the other island where those people still get bullied..how much more can we pull up… when people are jealous..

  3. Tracee said all she needed to say without taking a breath….She is representing Black Excellence 24/7…I have always been a fan but just realized how Amazingly humble and Beautiful she is….

  4. Black celebs are just as fake as white ones. There are only a handful of people who are truly courageous and honest about elite hypocrisy. Snoop comes to mind.

  5. So we cutting the music on our own!… πŸ€¦πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ This is for us!…when other award shows don’t give us our time to speak, but you want to do the same thing! Really BET and NAACP. Nobody shouldn’t have to rush… they are not even standing up there for a whole min!

  6. Yes queen.πŸ‘‘! Honor our elders and ancestors – those who have paved a way giving forth light in abundance. Shinning like a star, you are. πŸ’—

  7. This girl is doing real and actionable things for people of color. She's trying and doing. So let's celebrate her. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

  8. I am not buying anymore of the Me lie movement b.s. or Hollyweird actors or actresses preaching anymore. So all Black people need to be respected. Some may look like us, but have different agendas or being controlled by people who do. It's a reason they call them actors. SMDH

  9. Why is Tracee Ross SILENT ON THE CHARACTER ASSASINATION OF MICHAEL JACKSON? NO INTEGRITY. F off with your FAKE WOKENESS.

  10. Tracee reminded me at the end of her Stubborn mom Diana refused to Leave the stage LOL its Thundering, Lightning and Raining Ms Ross you have to Leave the Stage! Ms Ross l ain't Leaving the stage until l finish my Songs! Ms Ross you have to Leave the Stage your Time is up Dont you hear the music? Ms Ross: l do But l am Not Finished with My Speech..l am honored to be in the presence off Jill Scott..etc. The Ross really came out in Tracee.😁🀭

  11. Alright, so… I guess the number 1 takeaway from this year's show is that it needs to be longer LOL
But at the same time I can appreciate how serious they were about keeping the time and making sure there's structure. It's just that the image awards just happens to be one of those award shows where speeches about social justice reform are front and center. It takes a lot longer to stand up for equality than to thank you manager at the grammy's. But it's okay, we'll figure it out with time.

  12. It's rare you see a strong black women give other successful black women props….you can tell she meant it because she even added Lizzy on her list…. That's Wassup.

  13. This was a legendary, timeless and extremely necessary speech. There are times when the wrap-up music should not ever come on to cut such an incredible moment.

  14. this woman is absolutely brilliant; the legendary iconic superstar Diana Ross did extremely well in the upbringing of her children …..

  15. "That's it & that's all."- Nina Turner. That was so powerful given that in our community young people often go unheard. πŸ’―

  16. It's just like Tracee to bring up the legacies of others. Not one to shine a light just on herself. And she's so empowering to a whole new generation of girls.
