The BLACKBAG™ on a 4×5 TOYO Field Camera

OK… so what about the BLACKBAG™? This came in to the 3rd or 4th generation of building these focusing cloths and solves another problem, that is… that when you have a field camera that folds there’s often a little gap down here
where light gets in On monorail cameras this is a much
bigger problem. You have the rail down here and a big opening. So what I devised was a system where the
storage sack that you store your BLACKJACKET™ in will seal that up and the way it works is you have vertical
strips of Velcro on either side of the neck, you have corresponding horizontal strips… uh… this is a special Velcro… snag free… both the hook and
loop is contained in the same strip… uh… so vertical here horizontal here, you pinch that together, you
apply a little tensionl and get the other side in place and suddenly you’re blocking that light coming in from down below… and if it was
a monorail and I really need to get my controls I could just work at it from underneath like
so, the main thing is, it just takes way
that one last little bit of light that would be annoying while
you’re doing your composing and focusing. You can see, it’s
very nice and dark in there
